From the 7th century B.C. ancient civilization discovered that they could light fires using solar energy and glass. Thereafter, the first solar cell with selenium was developed 7 years after in 1883. As a result, this gave birth to many more progress. The first solar water heated was developed and patented in 1891. This is where the real foundation of modern solar energy was laid.

The Creation of the Solar Cell

The very first solar collector which has resemblance to today’s solar collectors was invented in 1908. The shortage of energy during World War 2 led to the embracement of passive solar buildings in the USA. Subsequently, it led to the first development of silicon photovoltaic cell in 1954. The advantage of this to the first selenium is its ability to generate enough powering for electrical equipment.

Form here, water heating in commercial properties began through the use of solar technologies. This is why solar still powers satellites today. Solar cells became an integral aspect of the design of satellites.

By now, solar panels were not yet commercialized until 1970 when engineers developed silicon cells which happens to be a cheaper option. Solar panels became suitable for domestic usage and the technology continued to gain momentum as the widespread  and possibilities of many different applications became feasible.

The solar energy technology continued to be improved upon. Cars and aeroplane could now be powered by solar energy. Solar farms became popular due to their capacity to generate energy in large scale.

Solar energy has proven to be the best option as non-renewable fossil fuels and other forms of energy continues to cause environmental pollution and more expensive to maintain. Countries like Nigeria has embraced the solar generation.
